This month we enter the silvery realm of the moon as we celebrate the sun’s passage through Cancer, the only moon ruled sign of the zodiac. Cancer is the sign of all things maternal. It is the sign of both the personal mother, and the Universal Mother whose body is the entire manifested cosmos. This sign holds great healing power for us at this moment in time, as it represents the consciousness that could pull us back from the brink of self destructive greed-based madness.

Cancer rules the home, the mother, the soul, the sea, the subconscious, the past, ancestry, roots, wolves, dogs, kitchens, chefs and, in the body, the breasts, womb, ovaries, and the rib cage that armors and protects all our inner organs. Cancer is a water sign and also rules the sea, crabs and any armored animals.

Cancer’s main dual function has to do with protecting and nurturing. Everything associated with this sign has to do with creating safety in which a developing entity can flourish. The developing entity can be anything really, a child, a family, a restaurant, business or even a budding idea. It is the job of Cancer to protect it as it develops and nurture and feed it as it grows.

In the realm of consciousness Cancer rules the subconscious symbolized planetarily by the moon, which is the original world wide web. We are linked to every other life form through our subconscious. Cancer understands the wholistic and interrelated nature of all Life and all Life forms. It is this wholistic consciousness that we desperately need to truly grasp in order to heal both individually and collectively. Cancer is the Great Ocean Mother, the primordial salty womb from which all life on earth sprang reminding us to honor all her life forms. Cancer is associated with midnight and the dark. This is the time during which our bodies heal and restore themselves and is also the time when our subconscious brings us messages from our higher consciousness.

The Cancerian consciousness is one of the cures to western Man’s left brain mentality run amok which divides and analyses the power, magic and beauty out of the world. When we abandoned the Divine Feminine we embraced religions, world views and science in which nature and women were declared the enemy and deemed worthy of conquest and exploitation. We see the disastrous fruit of such belief at every turn. When we worshiped God as a mother we lived with a much greater reverence for the earth, the seas, and the many other creatures we share this world with. I am not suggesting a return to an utterly feminine spirituality, but one which reveres both the masculine and feminine poles of creation equally.

Astrologically Cancer is one of the signs that has been taking the worst beating from the corporate malfeasance which is the primary negative effect of Pluto’s passage thru Capricorn. The first Cancerian victim was the housing market (Cancer rules housing) which crashed due to utterly selfish behavior on the part of Wall Street, leaving many homeless. The second victim has been the beautiful Gulf of Mexico and the millions of life forms including human that call it home. The Sea food industry also ruled by Cancer has also suffered a mighty blow due to the magnitude of the spill.

The Cancerian lesson is plain to see. There are no isolated events. What affects any of us will ultimately affect all of us. That is the bad news, but despite the dismal headlines that is also the good news. Any one of us can, thru our consciousness and action, affect the worldwide web positively and thereby effect healing. This is an important time for each of us to reflect on how we treat our planet and each other and what we can each do to individually and collectively make the shift to a sustainable and reverent approach to life, work, business and energy. Cancer reminds us what we nurture will nurture us in return.

Cancer reminds us there is no place like home. Treat it reverently

This is a great month to spend time with family. Migrate back to your ancestral land like a crab. It is also a great time to focus on home and nesting. Visit the coast and as Dr Emoto has been advising send blessings and apologies to the seas. Sleep more, rest more dream more. Prepare and eat yummy food. Write, journal, muse. Ask yourself what if anything are you pregnant with, and proceed to nurture yourself through the birthing process. Ask yourself what your soul needs then feed it that soul food. If we were to all magically approach every aspect of our lives with the shift in focus of feeding our souls rather than our egos I believe the world would transform over night. This month really reflect on what it is your soul really wants and needs in order to flourish.

The Sun entered Cancer back on June 21 which was also the summer solstice, the longest day and shortest night. The tide has turned and from here on in we will lose 2 minutes of light a day till the winter solstice when the tide will turn again. The Sun will leave Cancer on July 22, at which point it will enter dramatic, expressive Leo. Mercury will be in Cancer till July 9th, so our minds will be reflective and retentive and possibly focused on the past till then. The New Moon in Cancer is accompanied by a solar eclipse on July 11th. At that time the past and unresolved family issues may be coming up to be healed.

You may have read that we are in the midst of an unusual alignment of planetary energies – the cardinal grand cross of 2010 began to form on the summer solstice. The grand cross augurs a time foretold in the ancient Mayan calendars of the passing away of one era and the beginning of another. Remember that all without reflects what is within. These grand crosses will continue into 2014 so expect that the times – they truly are a’changin – will continue to show ups and downs. On the individual level, use these auspicious signs in the heavens as motivation to get your own house in order on all levels. The world needs your presence and loving energy more than ever.

ARIES

There is a wonderful new feeling of abundance for you Aries and you’ve never been more awake and ready for action, but even so take some time to restore this month. With the Sun and Moon in your home sector a slight strategic withdrawal might be just the thing to ready you for all the dizzying new changes that you have done the footwork for. Get to the beach or visit home and family. Rest while you can, it is going to be a very exciting and unpredictable year. When you are not resting and nesting create organization in your work house. There is more work coming so be prepared.

TAURUS

This is a month to work on your communication skills especially with family members. It’s a great month to nurture self and others with kind words and encouragement. If you have any writing projects you’d love to explore, now is the time. You may be full of new ideas with Mercury around through the ninth. After that, be daring in their expression. Your creativity really wants your attention these days. You are the messenger who could help bring us back to some sanity in our approach to both business and the natural world.

GEMINI

This month you are focusing on nurturing your bank account, while bringing your values into alignment with a larger environmental philosophy. There are ways of making money that also benefit women, children and the earth. This month view your financial long term well being as your garden. This month plant as many seeds as you can that could blossom in the months to come. Do this particularly after July 11th. Try to balance this focus with some quality time at home and some more time networking which could bring you all kinds of unexpected new opportunities.

CANCER

Happy birthday Cancer. With the Sun in your house of identity, you feel at the peak of your vitality this month. Early in July your mental powers are also strong. The new moon on the 11th brings a whole new focus to identity, partnerships and career that allows you to heal old issues from the past. The pressure is still on to find a new way of conducting you business and relationship life in a way that feeds your soul as well as your body. Be clear and focused in your communication. Make sure to get near water this month to recharge your batteries and outlook. You may have some truly inspired ideas about how to share resources in both a fair and profitable way.

LEO

This is a great month to withdraw to a watery retreat in order to pray, meditate and otherwise restore yourself to balance and harmony. Home may also be an ideal vacation place this month. With the Sun and Mercury in Cancer in your spiritual sector, any time spent communing with the maternal principle will do you some real good. With Venus in your own sign and in your sector of self this is also a month to focus on beauty, art and relationship. With both Saturn and Mars in your house of money and values, your approach to both areas is becoming increasingly well organized and environmental. After the 22nd the Sun enters your sign and your battery is massively recharged. Once that happens, don’t be afraid to express yourself.

VIRGO

With Saturn the planet of responsibility back in your sign till July 22nd you are the agent of environmental responsibility this month. With Mars in your sign, you must walk the talk as well. It is truly time to act on all your impulses around clean diet, nutrition as well as how to live a life that takes the web of life into account. This month it is time to nurture your career as if it were a newborn baby, which it might actually be. This month family and business might actually be synonymous. SAGITTARIUS

This month the Sun is shining into the deepest darkest house of the zodiac for you making this an ideal month to do some deep inner work that will allow you to learn to merge your life and resources with others who can be truly and mutually nurturing. Saturn is back in your career sector till the 22nd and Mars is there as well, making this an important time to get organized in your business. If you haven’t already done so, adopt the most environmentally sound approach to whatever you do for a living. After the 22nd networking, the arts and beauty become central to both your career and your personal well being.

CAPRICORN

The Sun is shining in your house of partnerships this month making this an ideal time to connect with business and personal partners. You have been going through a major transformation and it’s really starting to show in the realm of partnership. Ask yourself what creative projects would be the most soul nurturing for you and make some time to play with them. Venus is in Leo in your work sector so work also benefits from a fun and playful approach. Saturn and Mars are in your relationship house so it is important to focus on partners this month and to have clear boundaries with them. Everyone benefits from this approach. After the 22nd figure out fair ways of sharing the ample wealth that is coming your way.
